Softie The Film VS 2022 Elections.

*Transitions*

Let’s go back in time!!

“Conducting a clean campaign against corrupt opponents is increasingly harder to combat with idealism alone.” Activist Boniface Mwangi.

The despondency; the state of melancholy that the country faces 43 days to elections brings me back to ‘Softie The Film’. We are ‘relics of a bygone era’; a species that endures. Is this a dynasty imposed regime? Are Kenyans ready for change? Or, are we still moving in circles?

As the first-ever Kenyan film to run in cinemas for seven consecutive weeks, Softie presents photographer and activist Boniface Mwangi as a pragmatic and rational idealist who exposes the system in a rather intrepid way.

When 2007 dawned on us, Boniface Mwangi found his cause. He became known while recording the proceeds of the post-election violence. He would later channel his Chakra into fighting the very system that is still oppressing us.

The documentary synchronizes his personal and political history in a setting that screams ‘inequity’. Something as subtle as kindness feels like an illusion. Simply put, “don’t you dare play with us, we are the monarch and we will wipe you out and your entire species.”

As Sam Soko, the executive producer, tries to weigh up the highs of the film he knowingly combines a country’s true and hidden history through Bonnie’s reflection.

It’s been two years and approximately five months since the documentary came out but nothing has changed. My people are still mind-paralysed and to say the very least, we still wallow in silence that even the idea of self-worth to us comes as a phantasy.

Need I mention, the era of recession, the lack of interest to pursue greatness, the boredom, the mere form of existence! What will it cost to retrieve back our power? But then again, is there a worthy candidate?

I call him the ‘Bhang’ revolution. Even though many gas him up, I think the man is probably caught up in the case of the high. If you know you know. The real competition is between two candidates who have mastered the art of deception. The 48 Laws Of Power will tell you how much of a powerful tool this is and I think, the pieces just began to add up.

But I as come to a conclusion, do you really think our leaders are the problem (‘of course they are’) or are we threats to our own existence?

Meet me half way, as I take you through my contemplation. You, my reader, are in for a treat.
