Where is the Corpse?- The Curator.

Chapter 4

They strolled in silence towards the taxi spot. No awkward conversations just mad quietude. James had met Pedro at the airport intending to ask him some questions and also taking him to see the corpse. They didn’t click at all, insanely different personalities.

The taxi driver, a short charming man. Talkative but this time he met harsh faces that he almost put in the wrong destination. Kiss 100 with Kamene Goro and Jalas; it was Jalas’ first day of work at Kiss 100.

“Good morning, my name is Kamene Goro and for the first time ever…ever….ever…..eveeeerrr….. history is about to happen. It’s Kamene Goro with Jalas here in the morning on Kiss 100. As usual we are going through your weekly plans…how to revolutionize your week. Welcome Jalas.”

“( laughter) Hello Kamene, I have been getting questions right, left, center about where I am now, my frequency….(more laughter). I just want to clear the air……”

Three strangers in a cab staring wherever. James tried to break the silence.

“My condolences for your loss Pedro.” He said. It wasn’t the right place or time to begin questioning the deceased he thought.

Pedro on the other hand was lost in his own world. Neither did he engage nor maintain eye contact with the detective.

They followed the boulevard to the morgue. On arrival, James talked to the attendant. He led them in.

Bodies sat on the table, some covered with sheets over them some had no clothes on them. They saw brutal, gashed and smashed faces with wide gaping mouths.

There was an old man’s corpse with discolored teeth and sunken cheeks on their left. Faces of young children, ghastly smiles, some knitted brows and some sodden eyes. The sight was horrifying and disgusting.

They were now appearing at the far end when the morgue attendant came to a halt near a body that appeared to be the one. On opening the sheet, the woman had the same physique as that of the deceased but the face wasn’t hers. They checked all the bodies present, went through all the records of that week but nobody took her body.

“I swear it was here last night.” He explained.

Pedro’s anger was now skyrocketing and he held the attendant by his shirt punching him and hauling insults. The attendant was helpless begging to be left alone. If the detective hadn’t intervined…..

” Do your work for God’s sake Mr. Detective and find that body by tomorrow.” He stormed off.
